Innovative Partnership: British Columbia Critical Minerals

In 2025 7GA launched its partnership with the British Columbia (BC) Office of
Critical Minerals in order to create and launch the BC Critical Minerals Fund.

Critical minerals are essential to modern technology, renewable energy systems,
defense applications, and many industrial processes. These minerals are integral
to producing advanced technologies such as electric vehicles, wind turbines,
solar panels, semiconductors, and defense systems. As global demand for these
minerals rises, so does the need for secure and sustainable supply chains.

BC has significant resources of at least 16 of the most valuable critical minerals
and is home to important innovation and technology industries that can convert
minerals to value-added or finished products. This reduces supply chain risks
and the costs of the carbon footprint associated with transporting heavy
materials around the globe for various stages of processing. This approach also
keeps valuable jobs, business, and innovation intellectual property in BC.

Finally, BC has prioritized the rapid development of these strategic assets and
resources by creating the Office of Critical Minerals within the Ministry of
Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, demonstrating commitment and key
public-private partnership potential.

The BC Critical Minerals Fund (CMF) is underway and is designed to address the financing gap. Highlights include:

  • Identifying 20+ mineral exploration and development companies and projects,
    along with key investments in related processing “value add” industries in BC;
  • With a clear portfolio of projects, investing and financing them with strategic,
    blended capital;
  • Coordinating with strategic partners to expand offtake markets and to mitigate
    the impact of imported critical minerals extracted with foreign government
    subsidies, child/forced labor, absent environmental/community protections, and
    other unfair competition; establishing a value for ethically, environmentally,
    sustainably sourced BC critical minerals;
  • Developing long term offtake agreements to secure the value of Fund portfolio
    companies and projects.
  • During Climate Week NYC 2025, 7GA hosted the BC Premier, David Eby, who discussed critical minerals and their importance for the sustainable economy.
